3MM: Fear, Enthusiasm & Refuel Anxiety

3 MINUTE MONDAY

Hi friend,

My UK & Ireland Tour starts this Sunday!

This is the absolute best show I've ever put together including a huge 3000+ person event at London's Eventim Apollo.

Very limited tickets are remaining, get yours now at https://chriswilliamson.live/

“Man has it all in his hands, and it slips through his fingers from sheer cowardice.” — Fyodor Dostoevsky

A common motivational question to ask is “what would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?”

I’ve never really liked this question because… you can fail. You know you can fail.

You can start the business and lose money. Ask the girl out and get rejected. Move cities and hate it. Publish the thing and have everyone think it’s shit.

Plus, pretending that failure is impossible means that courage (the very thing you need more of) is never developed.

I think there are two far better questions…

“What would you do if you knew you’d be OK no matter what happens?”

Failure is still allowed. Embarrassment is still allowed. Rejection and disappointment and regret are all still on the table.

You’re just trusting yourself to survive them.

And then there’s an even simpler question:

What would you do if you had twice as much courage?

Nothing about the outside world needs to change.

You don’t have more talent or money or odds.

You haven’t suddenly become certain things will work out, you’re just braver.

And importantly, you don’t need to become a brave person to do a brave thing.

Courage can be a temporary loan.

For five minutes, you can just behave as if you were twice as brave and knew you’d be ok no matter what happens.

You can make the call, send the message, book the flight, publish the work, say the thing.

And then you’re allowed to go straight back to being scared (although strangely you’ll feel way less afraid now).

We tend to imagine courage as a permanent character trait, something you need to install into your personality before you can start behaving differently.

But most of the decisions that change your life don’t require a lifetime of courage, they just need twenty seconds of it.

You only need to be brave for long enough to make the decision and then Future You gets to live with the benefits of having made it.

Far more people are held back by a lack of conviction than a lack of competence.

There is someone out there with half your talent and twice your courage making 10x the progress. Go and beat them, for 20 seconds.

MODERN WISDOM

I do a podcast where I pretend to have a British accent.

This week’s upcoming episodes:

Monday.
Joe Hudson, Dr K & Connor Beaton - what rock bottom feels like and how to get out. 3 of the best mindset coaches on the planet all sat around the same table. Serious. Listen now on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Thursday.
John Kiriakou - former CIA whistleblower on who really runs the US Government, how to manipulate people, how mass deception works and more. Another heater.

Saturday.
Spencer Greenberg - Spencer read hundreds of personal development books and condensed them all into 12 strategies. Very good.

THINGS I'VE LEARNED

1.

Some Brits are afraid of the petrol station.

2,000 UK motorists were asked about anxiety associated with filling up at petrol stations.

62% of drivers aged 18–24 reported experiencing “refuel anxiety.”

50% of people experiencing refuel anxiety said they’d allowed their tank to become “dangerously low” because they were putting off visiting a petrol station.

25% had actually run out of fuel on the road after delaying refuelling.

Among Gen Z, more than two-thirds reportedly had asked a partner, friend or family member to fill their car for them.

2.
You should only date people who are as enthusiastic as you, from the beginning.

"He’s too eager."

“He likes you, Jessica. I’m sorry this is interfering with your dream of being mildly neglected.” — Jake Kozloski

3.
You don’t become well-networked by adding people on LinkedIn.

“Networking is overrated. Become first and foremost a person of value and the network will be available whenever you need it.” — Naval

LIFE HACK

Get your energy levels back, using science.

The supplement my doctor recommended to me over two years ago is 30% off for Prime Day.

It’s called Timeline, and it’s made to support mitochondrial health..

Your mitochondria help your cells produce energy, but they become less efficient as you age.

Timeline is backed by over a decade of research, and its supplement has been clinically studied for mitochondrial function and muscle strength.

I started taking it before I knew who made it, and I’ve stuck with it ever since.

This is Timeline’s lowest price of the year.

Get 30% off their supplements for Prime Day only.

Big love,
